Effective on January 3rd, your ZJX web site user name will change from it's current first-initial-last-name to your VATSIM Network ID (a.k.a. your CID or your PID).
Your current web site password will not change.
The change-over will happen sometime in the early morning hours (Eastern time) of January 3rd. You will know that the change has happened because the login box will ask for your "VATSIM ID" instead of your user name, and will also ask you for your "ZJX Password" to make it clear that you will use your current password and not your VATSIM Network password to log in.
As many of you are aware, the web site is currently going through a series of upgrades, with the ultimate goal of bringing the software that runs it up to the most recent versions. This will allow the web site administrators to offer a more user-friendly site and additional functionality.
One of the areas that will change is the user registration and authentication process. For the past several years the web site has created a user name for new members from the information provided when they register. This user name has been the user's first initial and last name, and—with the exception of a few cases—has served us well over the years.
The few cases where this method of creating a user name has not served us well is when we have two members who share a first initial and last name. Usually we work around the issue successfully, but it takes the intervention of a web site administrator to get it all working properly. Since this is an inefficient method of dealing with these cases, and usually causes delays in getting new members registered with the web site, we'll be changing the way everyone logs in some time in the next few weeks.
Instead of the current method, the new registration process will be using the individual's controller ID (CID) or pilot ID (PID) as his user name. This is the same ID you use to log into the VATSIM network as either a controller or as a pilot. To make things consistent for everyone, all user names will be changed to use the user's CID/PID. Your password to this web site, however, will not be changing. You will continue to maintain a separate password to log into this web site. We have no access to (nor do we want access to) your VATSIM network password.
