Daytona Beach TRACON Standard Operating Procedure
General
Daytona Beach International positions (DEL, GND, TWR, and APP) will adhere to the following general guidelines when operating the field on the VATSIM network:
- The calm wind runways designations at KDAB are runways 7L and 7R. It shall be used if the winds at KDAB are 4kts or less, otherwise the tower controller shall choose a runway most closely aligned with the winds. Runway 7L approach is ILS which also designates it as the foul weather preferred runway if wind direction and strength permit.
- DAB_TWR and DAB_APP shall coordinate all operations per the standard facility coordination procedures.
- KDAB is a Class C Airspace area. As such, all aircraft leaving the immediate area of the field will be assigned a discreet squawk code per current code assignments.
- Military operations are allowed in the DAB_APP airspace. Controllers will adhere to current FAA regulations regarding proper phraseology and direction of military jets and aircraft within their assigned airspace. Questions on those specific procedures can be addressed to the ATM, TA, or instructors by email.
- High performance arriving traffic for KDAB should be given crossing instructions of OMN at 4000.
- All arrivals to KDAB or other fields within the airspace of DAB_APP shall be descended to 1600' MSL for final approach course or ILS intercept and 2000 for visual approaches.
- Departure heading assignments remain at the discretion of DAB_APP when TWR is not online, however, during periods of high traffic volumes, it is most efficient to turn VFR departures left or right 30-40 degrees depending on their requested direction of flight. When 7L and 7R are in use, VFR traffic should be given a 30-40 degree turn to intercept the river or shoreline north/south bound. Tower controllers shall assign these headings just before handoff to DAB_APP at all times DAB_TWR is online. High performance (turbine) aircraft are exempt from this procedure and should be given the standard runway heading and 5,000 ft. for departure.
- VFR departure clearances should be at or below 3000 until clear of the class C airspace unless deemed safe and available by approach control
- When 25L/R in use, VFR arrivals should join the river/shoreline south/northbound for a left or right base to the appropriate runway.
- Runway selection for arrivals should be based on their location relevant to the airport.
Airspace Delegation
The diagram below outlines the boundaries for DAB_APP. Airspace for DAB TRACON positions is segmented into two areas for airspace allocation:

- The northern area (surrounding KDAB, KOMN, X47 and KEVB) is allocated from the surface to 11,000 MSL.
- The southern area (surrounding KTIX, KCOI, KCOF, KMLB, KXMR, X59, X68) is allocated from the surface to 5,000 MSL.
All TRACON positions must review and adhere to the CTR / TRACON Hand-off Procedures located in the general guidelines section of the website.

Daytona Practice Areas
- There are two practice areas for Daytona Beach Practice areas are places where flight training is done. The north practice area extends from the outer edge of class C to St. AugustineThe south practice area extends to the NASA restricted area. Approach control should give practice area traffic flight following until they are clear of the outer ring of the class C.
