Jacksonville ARTCC

Center SOP

Jacksonville Center Combined

Under normal operations, Jacksonville Center will operate with one center controller.  This controller will open up the Charleston specialty position, but be responsible for all uncontrolled ARTCC airspace.  Uncontrolled ARTCC airspace is all Class A, B, C, D, and E airspace within the ARTCC boundary that is not actively controlled by another controller (such as Approach, Departure, Tower, Ground, etc..).  See Figure 1.

Jacksonville Center Tallahassee Charleston Split Operations

When running split operation between two Center controllers, the controllers shall operate the Tallahassee and Charleston split operation or they shall operate the Charleston sector combined (Figure 1) from surface to FL230 and Valdosta sector combined (Figure IV) from FL240 to FL600.

When splitting via the Tallahassee and Charleston sector splits, Tallahassee shall operate from surface to FL230 within the Daytona area, and Charleston sector shall operate from FL240 to FL600 in the Daytona area.  This allows for the Charleston sector to begin descents into the Orlando and Tamp areas without being overwhelmed by arriving traffic as Tallahassee will finish the approaches.

Jacksonville Center Tallahassee, Charleston, Daytona Split Operations

When running with three controllers, the controllers shall operate the Tallahassee, Charleston and Daytona split (see Figure III).

Jacksonville Center High Splits

During events, controllers may choose to staff the high sectors which include Valdosta, Gainesville and the Brunswick sectors.  The Brunswick sector shall only be operated after the Valdosta and Gainesville sectors are fully staffed or during events where there is a large number of en-route flights.
