ZJX Senior Student (Tower) Practical Testing Guidelines





1.

Knowledge and adherence to ARTCC SOPs and policies is demonstrated.

2.

Correct frequencies used per local SOP.

 

Clearance Delivery ? VFR Departures

3.

S-VFR clearances are issued during IMC (if locally permitted).

4.

Flight Plan reviewed, if submitted. Incorrect elements amended with pilot and passed to follow-on controller.

5.

VFR Departure Clearance Issued properly with all required elements, in compliance with local SOP. Phraseology correct. Readback confirmed.

6.

Requests for Flight Following or Class ?B? Transition coordinated with Departure Control.

7.

Requests for training operations (instrument or visual) are properly cleared and coordinated with Tower.

 

Clearance Delivery ? IFR Departures

8.

a) Flight Plan reviewed.

b) Cruise ALT complies with Direction of Flight  and Minimum Enroute Altitudes

c) Routing assigned complies with appropriate LOAs or local SOP

d) Appropriate SID assigned or substitute procedure issued

e) Incorrect elements amended with pilot and passed to follow-on controller.

9.

IFR Departure Clearance Issued properly with all required elements, in compliance with local SOP. Phraseology correct. Readback confirmed.

 

Ground Control

10.

Departure aircraft receives current terminal information.

11.

Departure aircraft assigned Appropriate runway (helicopter departure path) based on local SOP.

12.

Properly phrased taxi and control instructions issued.

13.

Properly phrased taxi and control instructions issued (helicopter).

14.

Appropriate use of hold short procedures.

15.

Proper coordination with tower when aircraft moved across active runways.

16.

Proper handling of intersection departure requests.

 

Local Control (Tower)

17.

Appropriate & proper use of runway position and hold procedures.

18.

IFR (or when applicable, VFR) releases obtained in accordance with local SOP for departure aircraft.

19.

Proper departure sequencing is applied to departure aircraft.

20.

Proper wake turbulence warnings are issued to departure aircraft.

21.

Proper wind check and takeoff clearance is issued to departure aircraft.

22.

VFR Aircraft are released from control at Class D limits.

23.

IFR or radar service VFR departures are handed off to DEP control.

24.

Arriving aircraft are given proper wind check and landing clearances.

25.

IFR missed approaches are handled properly in accordance with local SOP.

26.

Proper visual traffic pattern separation methods and phraseology is used.

27.

Proper helicopter control and phraseology is used during departures and arrivals.

28.

Safe and appropriate use of side-step maneuvers is applied.
